Ever since my niece and nephew brought home some glittered pine cones that they had made a few years ago I have wanted to make them myself. The time has now come!
I love the idea of this craft for many reasons. I truly love crafting with organic elements and then adding a little bit of flair. I also love this craft because it's great for all ages. It's easy enough for little ones to participate.
First: Gather supplies. This craft has only four simple supplies.
Second: Get Started!
Take your pine cone and add glue to the edges. You can choose to simply just add glue to the edges/tips or go down into the cone a bit as I did. Then add glitter...LOTS of glitter! Don't be afraid to go wild with the glitter. The folder/paper underneath will catch all the excess and afterwards you can easily fill your bottle back up. After the cone is well-coated (no white of the glue showing) shake out all the glitter and place in a safe place to dry. I chose the lid of a box. Allow them to dry for a day or overnight.
Glue Tip: I personally just applied the glue directly from the glue bottle to the pine cone, but after looking at some pins on Pinterest I saw that people painted on the glue. I think that's a great idea and much easier for little ones.
Glitter Tip/Mention: I used fine glitter because all the colors matched my other Christmas decor perfectly, but let me tell you...it was a pain to work with. It gets everywhere and...stays! I know this is typical of all glitter, but the fine stuff especially. You may have less mess with chunkier glitter. I will say this though; the fine glitter really does sparkle and maybe even better than the chunky kind. So take your pick--better sparkle with more mess or less sparkle with less mess...decisions decisions. Choose wisely friends. ;)
Third: Decorate your home with your latest made glitter pine cones.
